The Bishop Ford Falcons varsity basketball team clinched second place and received a first round buy into the Class ‘A' Division of the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association basketball playoffs.

Led by sophomore guards Marc Jones and Damani Campbell and junior forward Joshua Blograve, the Varsity Falcons sport a 5-4 league slate and 8-11 overall after their initial 19 games as they head down the home stretch of the schedule.

The young Falcons went through some growing pains at the beginning of the season when they had two sophomores and three juniors as starters. They have certainly improved since early in the campaign.

The Falcons lost some close league games, including one to Cardinal Hayes, and got some key league wins in beating McClancy and Xavier.

Blograve has come on and has played great ball. He is the most successful player, averaging about 20 points a game. He had a couple of good games and is being looked at as one of the best players in the ‘A' Division of the league.

His high scoring game was 27 points against Xavier and in the team's first contest against McClancy. Last year, he averaged around 15 points an outing. He is also averaging around 12 rebounds.

The returning all-league player is capable of shooting from the baseline, inside the paint, on lay-ups and outside.

Blograve gets the ball from the guards, including Jones, who as a sophomore is one of the starters in the backcourt. He made a nice adjustment from last year's frosh team to the varsity one.

Coach Denis Nolan has also been impressed with the play of Jones and Campbell. "We hope to make a decent run in the playoff," Nolan said.

Bishop Ford can still take the division title and hopes to make a deep run in the playoffs.
